What language is the consultation in?
The consultation can be in English or Portuguese. In Spanish, depending on the availability of the doctor on duty: Portuguese and Spanish are close languages, and many Spanish-speaking patients communicate without difficulty.
Sign-up, payment and the waiting room are in English or Spanish. The documents (prescription, certificate and test request) are in Portuguese.
How to use the prescription at a pharmacy in Brazil
The prescription comes as a PDF with an ICP-Brasil digital signature and is valid throughout Brazil. Show the file on your phone at the pharmacy (in Brazil, a “farmácia” or “drogaria”): the pharmacist checks the signature and who issued it.
The document’s digital signature can be verified on the Brazilian government’s validator, validar.iti.gov.br.
A prescription from another country, in another language, is generally not accepted: Brazilian law requires the prescription to be in Portuguese and to carry the prescriber’s professional council registration (Law 5.991/1973, art. 35). In the consultation, the doctor assesses you and, when indicated, issues a prescription that is valid in Brazil.
Is the medical certificate valid outside Brazil?
The certificate is issued in Portuguese, with an ICP-Brasil digital signature, and is legally valid in Brazil (Law 14.510/2022).
To use it outside Brazil, with your employer, your university or your travel insurance, acceptance depends on whoever receives it. Check with them first and, if they ask for a translation, ask which kind they accept (for example, a certified translation).
Is telemedicine legal in Brazil?
Yes. Telehealth is regulated in Brazil by Law 14.510/2022, and teleconsultations by Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) Resolution 2.314/2022. Doutor Chamada’s doctors have an active CRM, and each registration can be checked on the CFM portal (portal.cfm.org.br).
Your data, including your passport, identifies you in the medical record and on the documents, and is processed under Brazil’s data protection law, the LGPD (Law 13.709/2018).

Can tourists use Brazil’s public health system (SUS)? When to go to the ER
Yes. Brazil’s Ministry of Health says foreign tourists can seek care in the SUS urgent-care network, the public health system, and that these services are free: SAMU (192) runs 24 hours a day, and UPA 24h units treat acute conditions.
In an emergency (chest pain, shortness of breath, stroke signs, seizures), call 192 or go to the nearest ER. For anything that isn’t an emergency, such as feeling unwell on your trip, a prescription for medication that ran out or a medical certificate, a video consultation is an alternative from wherever you are.

No. You sign up with your passport and its issuing country, and the consultation costs US$ 29.90. Your passport identifies you in the medical record and on the documents, in place of the CPF.
I’m a tourist. Can I use this?
Yes, if you are 18 or older and in Brazil during the consultation. It works for visitors on holiday, on business or studying.
What should I do if I get sick in Brazil?

Do I need health or travel insurance? Will my insurance cover the consultation?
No. You pay for the consultation directly, with no health or travel insurance. If you have travel insurance, what it covers depends on your policy: ask your insurer first whether it reimburses the consultation.
Is healthcare free for tourists in Brazil? Can I use the SUS?
Yes, in the urgent-care network of the SUS, Brazil’s public health system (SAMU 192 and UPA 24h units): Brazil’s Ministry of Health says foreign tourists can seek care there and that these services are free. Doutor Chamada’s teleconsultation is paid separately and is for what is not an emergency.
Can the doctor renew the prescription for my medication?
The doctor can renew continuous-use prescriptions when, in the consultation, they consider it safe to renew. Not every prescription can be issued by teleconsultation, and the doctor decides.
Can I get a prescription online without seeing a doctor?
No. In Brazil, a prescription is issued by a doctor after assessing you. Here, that assessment is the video consultation, and the doctor issues a prescription only when it is indicated.
Do you need a prescription for medicine in Brazil?
For many medicines, yes: pharmacies can only sell them with a prescription, and one from your country is generally not accepted (Law 5.991/1973, art. 35). In the video consultation, the doctor assesses you and, when indicated, issues a prescription that is valid in Brazil.
